These guidelines can help you determine if you should go to urgent care or the emergency room.

The emergency room is for situations that are life-threatening.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 immediately.

Go to urgent care for:

• Abrasions/cuts
• Allergies and asthma attacks (minor)
• Blood pressure screenings (free)
• Bruises
• Burns (minor)
• Colds, coughs, and flu
• Ear, eye and skin infections
• Eye injuries (minor)
• Fevers
• Sprains or strains
• Urinary tract infections
• X-rays

Go to the emergency department or call 911 for:

• Amputation
• Coughing up blood or vomiting blood 
• Difficulty breathing
• Fracture
• Heart attack or stroke symptoms (such as chest pain, severe abdominal pain, dizziness, sudden severe headache, sudden blurred vision, difficulty speaking, or numbness in face, arm or leg)
• Head injury (severe)
• Loss of consciousness
• Seizure
• Severe abdominal pain
• Severe bleeding or burn
